Hello Lafayette!
We are Courtney and Adam LeBlanc. We are the new owners of We Rock the Spectrum – Lafayette, located in Broussard, LA. We currently have a 12-year-old son, Kiptyn, who is our driving force behind bringing Autism Awareness and Acceptance to our community. Kiptyn was diagnosed with, Autism Spectrum Disorder at 22 months and our family immediately sought out Early Intervention and various therapies to help Kiptyn better understand our world. We are originally from St. Mary Parish and had to drive 1-2 hours daily to be able to find the necessary support for our sweet boy. We immediately knew a change was needed and we sought after how we could implement that change in our area. We moved to Lafayette Parish during the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown and like other special needs parents, we felt a huge impact from this shutdown! While reading an Autism mom’s blog we learned about We Rock The Spectrum and immediately KNEW this was a place we needed in our community! We knew this place would not only be beneficial for our special needs community but it would also allow ALL kids to enter into the inclusive environment we always dreamed about for our boy!
Currently, there is a huge need for an inclusive play area for children within the community. Existing special needs programs are geared more towards the older children, which sometimes leaves parents of younger special needs children feeling alone/left out. This is definitely something we want to help be an advocate of change for this area. We are planning to offer support groups and classes for not only children but parents too! Along with options of Open Play, Birthday Parties, Field Trips, Parents Night Outs, Respite Care, and Camps, We Rock the Spectrum – Lafayette will surely fill a void that many did not realize was missing!
About Courtney
Courtney graduated from Nicholls State University in 2009 in Birth to Five Early Intervention. During my time in school I had a passion to learn more and more about Autism. Little did I know that in 2011 I would be blessed with a sweet blue-eyed cutie who would later be diagnosed with Autism in 2012. I continued learning ALL THINGS AUTISM just from a different point of view- now a mother! Through my career as an educator for the past 14 years I have been able to connect with so many parents on a professional and personal level. The families I have worked with in the past have been my motivation and inspiration for bringing a WRTS to our area! Our children deserve a place like WRTS that they can feel included and where parents never have to apologize for anything! A place that EVERYONE here understands and just wants to love you and your kiddo the way that you are!
“As a mother of a child diagnosed on the spectrum I went through all the emotions that follow what I like to call ‘D-Day(Diagnosis Day).’ I did it alone with very few resources. I fought hard and I continue to advocate for my kiddo daily. We want WRTS to be YOUR PLACE so that you never have to feel alone, advocate alone, or be alone! We want to see parents and children thrive together in a developmentally appropriate environment that supports all their needs.” We look forward to serving the Acadiana region!
